The scene is laid in Mrs. Tweedle's shop. Mrs. Tweedle does mending, cleaning, dyeing and valetting, and the characters are her staff and her customers. The fact that a gentleman called Tommy Turnbull, whom no one seems to know, has had no less than ten pairs of grey flannel trousers cleaned within a month causes not only comment but some anxiety -- as they have not been paid for. The explanation is revealed only in the last fewminutes of the play.
