The period is early in the twenty-second century; the characters are members of a small community in the South of Scotland. The theme is the age- old but inexhaustible one of love and matrimony, two human experiences of which, as in this case, the one is not always the necessary corollary of the other. Both are considered from various and widely different points of view, whose protagonists contrive among them to create a series of comical situations that give great scope for character acting. Setting and costumes are simple.
