Item details

This play deals with the installation of an organ in the kirk, in the days when the "kist o' whistles'' was considered an evil thing by the older generation of churchgoers. Susan Guthrie, a stern old Christian whose motto is "Resist all improvements'', vigorously opposes the installation of the organ, but is finally overcome by the organ itself. The scene, the women's sewing meeting, is very colourful. There is characterisation galore, humour in abundance, and a grand climax.
