Sarah Morton, left alone in the world, feels so embittered that she cannot enter into the joys of Christnias. Her niece, Jenny, estranged from her sweetheart , comes to keep Sarah company and share in her despondency. Various neighbours appear, all with their own troubles which appear very great to them. One, however, only sees the troubles of others and ignores her own. She influences the other women in a strange mystic way - her very presence brings uplift and peace and through her, Sarah finally realises that the only way to make her troubles bearable is to help others. All are good acting parts in this comedy-drama.
