Robert Kemp's one woman thriller was written especially for the Scottish actress Lennox Milne, who performed it with great success in the first season of the Edinburgh Gateway Company in 1953-54. Shona Cameron, a young Highland girl, comes to the New Town of Edinburgh in the nineteen fifties as companion to Miss Stobo, an elderly invalid, who then dies in a fire. The scene is Shona's attic bedroom as she unravels the mystery of what has, in fact, been murder. The play is a tour de force for a solo actress. She not only plays Shona and Miss Stobo but another 10 parts as well -- ranging from Miss Stobo's nurse and cleaning lady to her ne'erdowell nephew and niece.
