A comedy-drama of two lonely women. Martha is a cripple, unable to move about. Janet has given her a home and looks after her. She earns a living for both by going out washing and cleaning. Martha is fiercely protective of her rights and resents the help of a kindly neighbour. The lives of the two women seem drab to the visiting church social worker, but Martha and Janet have the "inward eye'' and with the help of tourist guide books, they escape from their restricted surroundings, travel the world and sail the seven seas. Plenty of laughs with an underlying tragedy.
