Item details
When Robert Burns visits Stewarton, he encounters three bonnet-makers intent on selling him a bonnet and inducing him to write a poem about them. They act out one of the village tales about their local witch, Needle Nell, but Robert's fancy is taken by a young milk maid who enters singing an old weaving melody. He goes off with this girl, to write down her song, and the bonnet-makers have to console themselves with the news of a knitting factory to be set up in the village¡.
